Carle McLean County Orthopedics offers patients on-site imaging technology, including x-rays, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), diagnostic and procedural aid Ultrasounds, and DEXA scans. X-rays are commonly used to diagnose broken bones, examine areas of the body experiencing pain, monitor the progression of certain diseases, and more. MRIs are noninvasive medical tests that use a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of organs and tissues within your body, which can't be seen with a typical x-ray. Patients can benefit from the quality, speed, and convenience of our on-site imaging technology. Your results will be read quickly and efficiently by an expert who will provide a diagnosis and treatment options upon the completion of your imaging service.

What to Expect During Your MRI?

Carle McLean County Orthopedics offers a state-of-the-art imaging system with spacious surroundings in our “open” MRI technology. Our open MRI machine has a larger opening compared to a standard MRI machine, which may offer increased comfort for people who get nervous in small places. Most MRI machines are large magnets that use the magnetic field to temporarily realign hydrogen atoms in your body. Radio waves cause these aligned atoms to produce very faint signals, which are used to create cross-sectional MRI images that can be read by technicians.

During your MRI scan, you will lie on your back on a table that is part of the MRI scanner. The table will then slide into the space that contains the magnet. Inside the scanner, you will hear a fan and feel air moving. It is important to stay completely still during the scan. You may also hear tapping or snapping noises as the MRI scans are performed.

DEXA, or Bone Densitometry, is the most accurate method for evaluating comprehensive bone health and diagnosing osteoporosis. It’s safe, quick, and noninvasive nature make it the ideal technology for today's needs. After a completed scan, customized reports are obtained and analyzed by our trained, specialized medical team. Comprehensive data is then compiled and used to formulate complete preventative and treatment options.
